Uber brings food delivery app UberEATS to India; to compete with Zomato, Swiggy

  • Uber has finally released its food delivery app UberEATS in Mumbai.
  • Without bundling in the service in the ride-hailing app itself, Uber’s online food delivery platform will be released as its own application.
  • Claiming an average delivery time of 35 minutes, it has partnered with over 200 restaurants to offer a range of cuisines, enabling users to beat long lines or have breakfast comfortably nestled in bed.
  • The app detects the user’s location and displays popular local restaurants that are open at the time, allowing them to choose from a narrow menu of options. Upon placing the order, they are notified of the total price – including delivery fee – after which they can track its delivery status, making ordering food as easy as booking a ride.
  • Although there is no minimum order size, a delivery fee of Rs.15 will be levied with each purchase.
