Korean automaker Kia Motors to make compact sedans, SUVs in India from 2019

  • KiaMotors, a sister-company of Hyundai Motors & the second-largest automobile-maker in South Korea has forayed into the Indian market.
  • It will produce a compact sedan & a compact SUV especially for the Indian domestic market.
  • The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Andhra Pradesh (AP) government for setting up the plant.
  • The 600 acres manufacturing facility at Anantapur district is expected to start production in the second half of 2019 & produce around 3 lakh units each year, commencing local sales towards the end of 2019. 
  • Kia believes construction of the new manufacturing facility in India will enable it to maintain its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing automobile brands. 
  • Kia produces over 3 million vehicles a year in five countries with a distribution network in 180 countries.
