Flipkart has launched its first private label business under an umbrella brand called Flipkart Smart Buy.
Flipkart Smart Buy will span 25-30 categories in electronics, electronic accessories, and home plastics.
It will launch a second private label brand early 2017.
By April 2017, it plans to include categories like home decor, home furnishings, home appliances, and furniture.
Flipkart’s strategy will be to address quality gaps across categories including in somewhere there are already several brands & putting high-quality products at affordable prices in the hands of the customers.
Amazon’s private label efforts which are concentrated in the fashion category might be one of the reasons for Facebook’s entry into private labels.
Flipkart’s independent fashion marketplaces Jabong and Myntra already have several private labels.
