ASCI pulls up Jio, Pepsi over misleading ads

Advertisement Standards Council of India is a self –regulatory voluntary
organization of advertising industry in India. The organization is committed to ensure the protection of the interest of consumers. Advertising sector watchdog ASCI investigated complaints against 208 advertisements in June, of which 179 were regarding misleading claims including those of Reliance Jio, SpiceJet, PepsiCo India, Hindustan
Unilever, among others.
  • PepsiCo India’s Quaker Oats advertisement was upheld as it showed the comparison between Quaker oats and cornflakes.
  • Spice jet advertisement was pulled up as it showed disregards for the safety and encouraged negligence.
  • HUL’s Lifebuoy soap advertisement was considered misleading as it showed that the soap is doctor recommended.
  • Reliance Jio Infocomm was also pulled up as it said to be the world’s largest mobile data network for ambiguity and implication that they referred to consumption of data and not extent and infrastructure of the network.
The close look of ASCI ensures the interest of consumers which is necessary as every company is coming up with a new advertisement to attract consumers. Advertising plays a key role when it comes to making a buying decision.

  1. I have one question that who can file a complaint about advertisement and where?
I think you miss one advertisement of tooth paste brand or may be someone not file it. Bcoz this brand also show their comparison with other brand. Sorry am afraid to mention the name of the brand.
    I hope you understand.

  2. Do you mind if I quote a few of your posts as long as I provide credit and sources back to your webpage?
My blog is in the very same niche as yours and my visitors would definitely benefit from some of the information you present here.
Please let me know if this okay with you.
    Thanks!
