Amazon exploring offline channel

  • Amazon, post demonetization, took the decision to move to offline distribution in order to increase its sales.
  • Amazon pitched brands like OnePlus and Coolpad to the retailers.
  • Amazon’s plan to invest significantly in offline distribution would benefit to online-exclusive brands, as they don’t have to spend much money on infrastructure for warehousing and offline distribution but still can get sales.
  • Amazon’s wholesale operations have been on good pace as the entities are now purchasing smartphones from brands and selling it directly to customers.
  • Amazon is the latest large corporate to enter the business of smartphone distribution. Reliance entered this business by selling 4G VOLTE smartphones which included its own Lyf handsets and Jio connections.
  • This is a good initiative by Amazon to pitch the consumers who aren’t comfortable with online shopping.
