Electronics brand Akai has re-entered the Indian market through its licensee Hometech Digital and is aiming to have around Rs1500-2000 crore sales in the next 4 years.
Hometech Digital has launched 60 products under Akai brand in various categories including LED TV, washing machines, air conditioners and home appliances.
As a part of its strategy, the company is positioning itself among the ‘B-segment’ customers. These are those customers who want quality product but cannot afford the top brands.
Akai had come first to India in 1995 by launching colour televisions but it lost out to Korean rivals Samsung and LG.
Hometech Digital has got brand license for Akai in July’16 for 10 years. Akai is also in talks with leading e-commerce channels as it expects a good volume from the online platform as it is a growing opportunity.
The company is also focussing hard on consumer satisfaction aspect and has already made 55 service centres in 8 states. Akai would import products from countries like Taiwan and China and assemble it locally in India.
